Our community, our choice
Like so many local communities, in Braunton we face some stark challenges, especially about access to affordable homes that are vital to a vibrant and sustainable community. That’s why Braunton Community Land Trust was set up in 2021 by residents who wanted to give local people like you more say over how local land could be developed to benefit the whole community.
What is a Community Land Trust?
Across the UK, Community Land Trusts (CLTs) like Braunton CLT are being set up as non-profit organisations run by local volunteers to develop housing and other community facilities in response to local needs.
Our Aims & objectives
Braunton Community Land Trust’s objectives are to carry out activity for the benefit of the people who live and / or work in the Parish. Our prime objective is to provide affordable housing for rent and assistance to help house those in need. To that end we will promote building quality new properties that combine energy efficiency, good design and value for money and will ensure that local people can afford CLT homes, with priority given to those with a strong local connection
Why get involved as a community member?
For a membership cost of only £1, you can have a significant influence over how affordable housing in Braunton could be improved, decide what kind of development is needed and make informed choices about the future. Members have a say in the direction of the Trust through voting at the AGM and by electing the members of the Board.
Will it take up much time?
No, there are no obligations whatsoever. However, there will be plenty of chances to get more involved if you chose to.
Do I need any experience?
No. Whether you have lived here for years or are new to the village, everyone aged over 18 can apply to join.
